Maharaja to be released in China! Vijay Sethupathi-starrer becomes fourth Tamil film to hit theatres in the country

    Following the massive theatrical and OTT reception, Vijay Sethupathi's Maharaja is all set for release in China, making it the fourth Tamil film to be released in the foreign country.

    Tamil star Vijay Sethupathi’s last outing, Maharaja, was a blockbuster hit among all Tamil releases, attaining not just box office success but also receiving exceptional reviews following its digital release. Building on its massive reception, it has now been announced that the film will be released in China soon!

    Director Nithilan Swaminathan took to his social media pages to make the announcement, revealing that Vijay Sethupathi’s Maharaja will be releasing in China on November 29, 2024. With this, Maharaja becomes the fourth Tamil film to achieve this feat, following Vijay's Mersal, Sivakarthikeyan's Kanaa, and Rajinikanth's 2.0.

    Upon its OTT release on Netflix, the film consistently topped the charts and garnered millions of views on the platform. It even surpassed the viewership of Kareena Kapoor Khan's Crew, becoming the most-viewed Indian movie on Netflix.

    Directed and written by Nithilan Swaminathan, Maharaja marked the 50th film in Vijay Sethupathi’s illustrious career. The story revolves around a barber who seeks the help of a few cops to solve a crime involving his daughter. Besides Vijay Sethupathi, the film features Anurag Kashyap, Mamta Mohandas, and Natty Natraj in key roles, along with Abhirami, Arul Doss, Munishkanth, Boys Manikandan, Singam Puli, Bharathiraja, Vinod Sagar, and PL Thenappan as part of the supporting cast.

    Upon its initial release, the film received widespread acclaim from both audiences and critics. Swaminathan was lauded for penning a thrilling storyline that kept viewers hooked until the very end. Vijay Sethupathi’s performance was hailed as one of the best of his career.
