More about Lubber Pandhu
Directed by debutant Tamizharasan Pachamuthu, the film revolves around Harish Kalyan and Attakathi Dinesh’s characters, who are talented gully cricketers in their town. However, when an ego clash ensues between the two, chaos breaks out. Besides the lead characters, the film also features Swasika and Sanjana Krishnamoorthy in key roles. Upon its initial release, the film garnered positive reviews and also earned more than Rs 40 crore at the box office.
Lubber Pandhu inspired by Ayyappanum Koshiyum
In an earlier interview, director Tamizharasan revealed that the story was inspired by certain aspects of his life, but he drew inspiration for the lead characters from the critically acclaimed Malayalam film Ayyappanum Koshiyum, released in 2020. For those unfamiliar, Ayyappanum Koshiyum, starring Prithviraj Sukumaran and Biju Menon, was directed by the late filmmaker Sachy.
Ayyappanum Koshiyum follows Biju Menon and Prithviraj's characters, who are a cop and retired army havildar, respectively. The two headstrong men lock horns after an ego clash, and chaos ensues.
Tamizharasan expressed his admiration for Ayyappanum Koshiyum, particularly praising the depth of its characters. He mentioned that Biju Menon’s character and his wife resonated with him. While he did not intend to remake the film, he aimed to create something similar to those characters.
He also shared that, given his knowledge of both cinema and cricket, he considered incorporating those character traits into the lead roles of his film.
