Lata Mangeshkar does not get a tribute in the Grammy Awards 2022, netizens express their disappointment

Netizens and music enthusiasts were left disappointed after the recently held Grammy Awards 2022 failed to pay tribute to the legendary singer, Lata Mangeshkar. The singer who was known as the ‘Nightingale Of India’ had passed away on February 6, 2022. This came after the Oscars also missed out on paying tribute to the singer as well as acting thespian Dilip Kumar.

Lata Mangeshkar did not find a spot at the Memoriam segment of the occasion. The Grammy Awards 2022 saw Rachel Zegler, Cynthia Erivo, Leslie Odom Jr and Ben Platt pay tribute to artists like Tom Parker, Stephen Sondheim, and Taylor Hawkins. However, Lata Mangeshkar’s fans expressed their dejection of the legend for not getting a tribute. Fans were also upset with no tribute for Bappi Lahiri who is hailed as the ‘Disco King’ of India.

One of the fans wrote, “Grammys forgetting to give a tribute to the great singer Lata Mangeshkar, Y'all r sick. Learn how to appreciate and respect ppl.” While another netizen stated, “Both the Oscars and Grammy awards claim to promote diversity but surprisingly none of them bothered to showcase Lata Mangeshkar in their section to remember artists who are no longer with us.”

A user expressed his disappointment on no tribute for Lata Mangeshkar whose career in music spanned over 7 decades. The tweet read, “Genuinely surprised that no tribute was paid to Lata Mangeshkar at the Grammys. She was an artist in the absolute purest form and has been so influential in South Asian music ... and her career spanned 7+ decades.”

A netizen furthermore wrote, “It saddens me to see how both the Oscars & the Grammys failed to pay tribute to the Indian singing legend @mangeshkarlata Ji in its Memoriam section.” Meanwhile, talking the singer, Lata Mangeshkar had passed away at 92 after battling pneumonia and COVID-19 . The singer holds a record of singing for over a thousand Hindi movies.
