Keerthy Suresh rejected Kalki 2898 AD offer before voicing Bujji: 'I'm glad I said no to Nagi...'
Keerthy Suresh revealed that she was offered a different role in the latest Telugu blockbuster Kalki 2898 AD by writer-director Nag Ashwin.
Bujji and Bhairava
The Telugu film Kalki 2898 AD has taken 2024 by storm, quickly becoming the biggest blockbuster of the year. Among the standout performances in this sci-fi epic, Keerthy Suresh's portrayal of Bujji, a witty and loyal bot, has won widespread acclaim. Her voice work has brought a unique personality to the character, which serves as the operational brain of Bhairava's (played by Prabhas) formidable bounty-hunting super vehicle.
Interestingly, Keerthy Suresh wasn’t initially cast as Bujji. Director-writer Nag Ashwin first offered her a different role in the film, but Keerthy wasn't entirely convinced. Reflecting on the experience, she told Galatta Plus, "Nagi offered another role in the film, which I was not very sure of. Later, he messaged me saying, 'Do you want to at least peep through a ball at least?' I said, 'I'd love to do it in your film.' I am actually glad I said no to the other role. It was the best dubbing I had. It was so much fun. It was a great memory, and I'm looking forward to the next one."
Keerthy's decision to take on the role of Bujji has certainly paid off, with audiences praising her ability to breathe life into the small yet significant character. Her collaboration with Nag Ashwin has once again proven successful; their previous project, Mahanati, was a turning point in her career, earning her critical and commercial success.
As Keerthy basks in the success of Kalki 2898 AD, she is also gearing up for the release of her next film, Raghu Thatha, set to hit cinemas on August 15. Filmmaker Suman Kumar has written and directed, Raghu Thatha, which is billed as a comedy-drama. Keerthy essays the lead role of a woman who leads a witty and bloodless rebellion against the issue of Hindi imposition.
