Filmmaker Nelson is making his debut as a producer with the upcoming comedy movie Bloody Beggar. While launching the movie's trailer, Nelson revealed that he initially rejected director Sivabalan Muthukumar's idea to cast Kavin in the lead, suspecting his judgment might have been clouded by his fondness for the actor.

"I advised that we were already taking a risk with the unique concept of the movie, and let's not add on more risks by casting Kavin. I felt that Kavin was not the right choice to shoulder a project with such a huge production cost. I told him that we could approach either Dhanush or Vijay Sethupathi," Nelson recalled.

Sivabalan, however, remained steadfast in his decision to go ahead with Kavin in the lead. On the other hand, Nelson was convinced that Kavin wasn't a good fit, both in terms of character and business perspective. Nelson eventually relented and agreed to Sivabalan's choice. "The first time I saw Kavin in character, I realized that Sivabalan knew exactly what he wanted," he noted.

Nelson emphasized this sentiment even in a promotional video released during the title announcement. In the promo, Nelson wondered about Sivabalan's ability to envision Kavin in such an unfamiliar role.

Nelson also shared that he promised to produce Bloody Beggar only if his 2023 directorial, Jailer starring Superstar Rajinikanth, became a hit. "I told Sivabalan that I wouldn’t produce the movie if Jailer performed average at the box office. I think Sivabalan prayed more than I did for its success," quipped Nelson.

"When I saw Bloody Beggar, I was very impressed with Kavin's brilliant performance. I realized what a big mistake I would have made if I had cast other actors," Nelson remarked.

Bloody Beggar is due in cinemas on October 31.
