Katrina Kaif's horror comedy Phone Bhoot likely to overpower Janhvi Kapoor's Mili and Sonakshi Sinha's Double XL at box office
According to trade analyst Girish Johar and film distributor Akshaye Rathi, Phone Bhoot starring Katrina Kaif, Siddhant Chaturvedi, and Ishaan Khatter has an edge over the other two releases. Trade analysts believe that the film may pull the audience to the theatres owing to Katrina’s star power and its horror-comedy genre.
Despite being big Diwali releases, Akshay Kumar’s Ram Setu and Ajay Devgn starrer Thank God failed to do wonders at the box office. Their lukewarm performance at the ticket window didn’t bring any relief to the dying Hindi box office. Well, trade experts are eying the upcoming releases– Phone Bhoot , Mili , and Double XL and hoping to keep the box office churning considering each film has different content to offer.
According to trade analyst Girish Johar and film distributor Akshaye Rathi, Phone Bhoot starring Katrina Kaif , Siddhant Chaturvedi, and Ishaan Khatter has an edge over the other two releases. Trade analysts believe that the film may pull the audience to the theatres owing to Katrina’s star power and its horror-comedy genre. And pegged the film’s opening between Rs 1.5-2 crores at the box office. While Sonakshi Sinha and Huma Khureshi’s Double XL, which is a commentary on oversized women’s battle against body-shaming in society, is predicted to earn around Rs 50 lakhs on the day of release.
On the other hand, Janhvi Kapoor’s Mili which is a Hindi remake of the Malayalam film Helen might face risk at the box office. According to Rathi and Johar’s statement given to Indian Express, the Hindi remakes of superhit South films have struggled to pull people to the theaters most recent example is Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan’s Vikram Vedha. The experts believe if the remakes are not an exact copy of the original, they might work. Hence, they predicted Mili’s collection is similar to that of Double XL, which is of Rs 50 lakhs only.
Also, the collection of the three releases–Phone Bhoot, Double XL, and Mili will suffer because of the unchanged ticket prices. As the films lack star power, trade experts feel no one will spend so much money to watch these movies. Also, they hope that these films incur profits until the next big-ticket releases including Sooraj Barjatya’s Uunchai, Black Panther, and Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s Yashoda.
Meanwhile, Phone Bhoot is directed by Gurmmeet Singh and produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani. While Double XL is helmed by Satram Ramani and bankrolled by Mudassar Aziz and Ashwin Varde. And survival thriller, Mili, is directed by Mathukutty Xavier and produced by Boney Kapoor. The films are slated to hit screens on November 4.
