On the special occasion of South Indian superstar Anushka Shetty’s 43rd birthday, the makers of her upcoming Malayalam film Kathanar - The Wild Sorcerer unveiled her first-look poster from the film. The Jayasurya-starrer fantasy horror thriller marks Anushka’s ambitious Malayalam acting debut, where the South Indian ‘Queen’ takes on an intriguing role.

The motion poster unveiled Nila, a young woman dressed in a simple green saree with a headscarf, showcasing a softer, more endearing look that contrasts with the fierce avatars Anushka is known for. While details about her character remain under wraps, the makers promise a spectacular Malayalam debut for the celebrated actress.

Directed by Rojin Thomas, known for the National Award-winning film Home, the project also stars Prabhudeva, Jiyad Irani, and Vineeth in pivotal roles.
The film’s story centers on the legendary Christian priest Kadamattathu Kathanar, known for his mystical powers. Hollywood action director JJ Park, who has worked on The Last of Us and Shazam, has choreographed the action sequences.
Earlier, lead actor Jayasurya revealed that the film's lengthy shooting schedule had concluded, with the principal photography now wrapped up. Taking to social media, Jayasurya thanked the cast and crew for their dedication and applauded Anushka Shetty, warmly welcoming her to Malayalam cinema.
A glimpse of the film, released earlier on Jayasurya’s birthday, gave us a sneak peek into the folklore surrounding Kadamattathu Kathanar. The teaser portrayed Jayasurya’s character, a man imprisoned by church officials due to his supernatural abilities, while villagers encounter a mysterious force. The teaser concludes with Kathanar, dressed as a priest, set against a chilling backdrop, enhanced by gripping background music and visual effects.
The release date of the film, reportedly made on a staggering budget of ₹75 crore, is yet to be announced.
