Kathanar: Leo actor set to make Malayalam film debut in Jayasurya's movie

Jayasurya’s upcoming fantasy horror thriller Kathanar: The Wild Sorcerer is one of the most extravagant films of Mollywood. While the film is currently under production, the latest from the sets is that the makers have roped in a popular Tamil actor.

Recently, the makers of Kathanar: The Wild Sorcerer announced on social media that Leo actor and choreographer Sandy will be playing a pivotal role in the film. This movie also marks Sandy's Malayalam acting debut. “We're excited to have you, Sandy, join us on this amazing journey with Kathanar. Your talent and energy are a wonderful addition to our team. Welcome aboard, and here's to your first Malayalam movie!” the makers wrote.

Interestingly, Sandy isn’t the only Kollywood actor involved in the project. Earlier, the makers had onboarded actor-choreographer Prabhudeva and unveiled the first look poster of his character. 

The poster featured Prabhudeva in a regal avatar, indicating that he could be playing the role of a magician. However, they are yet to reveal more details about Sandy's character in the film.

Earlier, on lead actor Jayasurya's birthday, the makers released the teaser of the fantasy horror thriller. The teaser features Kerala’s folklore legend Kadamattathu Kathanar, who was said to have magical powers. 

Jayasurya plays a man who is held captive by church officials cautious of his magical abilities. The teaser then depicts villagers encountering mysterious energy, ending with Jayasurya's character, Kathanar, dressed as a priest. The background music and visual effects enhance the film's horror elements.

Directed by Rojin Thomas, known for the National Award-winning film Home, this upcoming film also stars Anushka Shetty (as Kalliyankattu Neeli) in her Mollywood debut, Prabhudeva, Jiyad Irani, and Vineeth in pivotal roles.

The story is based on the legendary Christian priest Kadamattathu Kathanar. JJ Park, who has worked on Hollywood films such as The Last of Us and Shazam, serves as the action director. 

Currently in production, the film is expected to be released in theaters later this year.
