Kanguva's release delayed: Suriya's fans outraged, producers call out online negativity
The production team is addressing this misinformation head-on, following the delay in release of Suriya's Kanguva, fully aware of how unchecked online negativity could impact the film's popularity.
Kanguva X reactions
The producers of Kanguva are facing immense pressure from fans of Tamil star Suriya on social media, who are lashing out at them for postponing the movie's release. Originally slated for release on October 10, Kanguva was delayed when the producers decided to avoid a clash with Superstar Rajinikanth's Vettaiyan, which also picked the same release date.
Producer KE Gnanavel Raja of Studio Green, who has mounted Kanguva at a big cost, made this decision after considering the business implications. Releasing on the same date would have forced a significant cut in the screen count in Tamil Nadu. With approximately 1,150 screens in the state, theaters would have had to divide them equally between the two major films, potentially affecting the box office collections of both. This was not an ideal situation for the producer. However, it seems this decision has hurt the pride of Suriya’s fans. Following the announcement, some have resorted to trolling the producers and even spreading misinformation.

Gnanavel’s wife, Neha, took to social media to call out false and problematic posts, urging fans to show restraint. "You are creating wrong information! It’s people like you who create negativity for fun!" she responded sharply to a user on X (formerly Twitter). The post in question has since been deleted.
Neha further engaged with fans, explaining the rationale behind the decision to postpone the release of Kanguva. "Would you be happy if we went wrong with collections and fewer theaters? So that explains it! We respect fans' emotions for sure, but we also respect the business—buyers' and investors' emotions and their money too!" she explained in response to a fan who accused her and her husband of failing to consider the feelings of fans.
Studio Green CEO Dhananjayan also urged fans to be patient and promised that a new release date would be announced shortly. "October 10th was a fantastic date for a pan-India release with a 5-day weekend. Now @GnanavelrajaKe sir is looking at other dates that will be equally good in the next two months (October - November) and will advise us soon. Until then, have patience, give respect to the decision of the producer, and wait for the formal announcement. Once the release date is decided, there will be no looking back, and we will storm across to reach out to you," he said.
