After making a decent opening at the box office, Suriya’s Kanguva struggles to make a mark. Directed by Siva, Kanguva opened to mixed to negative reviews, with criticism directed at its outdated screenplay and loud sound effects. Starring Suriya, Bobby Deol, Disha Patani, and Karthi, the film has been struggling to gain traction, especially considering its over-the-top budget. Here’s how much the latest Tamil fantasy flick has earned so far:

    Kanguva box office collection

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Kanguva kicked off with decent numbers, earning approximately ₹40 crore worldwide. On day 2, the film earned around ₹9 crore nett in India, with worldwide collections currently standing at ₹58.62 crore. The film witnessed a drop of 69% and seems to be struggling as audiences appear more invested in Sivakarthikeyan’s Amaran, which, despite being three weeks older than Kanguva, continues to enjoy successful shows. Given Kanguva’s substantial budget, the film needs to perform well this weekend, especially with highly anticipated releases like Pushpa 2: The Rule just around the corner. If the film manages to cross ₹100 crore by the end of the weekend, it might be able to make an impression at the box office.

Producer K. E. Gnanavel Raja on reducing the sound effects

One of the major criticisms faced by the makers from audiences has been Kanguva’s headache-inducing sound effects. In a recent interview, Studio Green producer K. E. Gnanavel Raja revealed that the team is currently working on reducing the volume by 2 points. He also mentioned that the sequel to the film, which will feature Suriya and Karthi locking horns, will commence production after director Siva completes his next project.

Despite praise for Suriya's performance and Karthi's surprising cameo appearance in the climax, the film has generally received negative reception from audiences and critics alike.

Kanguva, starring Suriya in dual roles, is currently running in theatres near you.
