Suriya’s latest film, Kanguva, which hit the big screens on Children’s Day, faced major backlash for its outdated storyline despite receiving praise for Suriya’s performance. Directed by Siva, the film had a promising run at theaters, with expectations of crossing ₹35 crore on its opening day due to its high budget. However, it fell short, managing to become the highest opening collection in Suriya’s career but not reaching the anticipated figures.

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Kanguva earned approximately ₹26 crore in India on its opening day, breaking the actor’s decade-old record set by Anjaan, which opened with ₹16 crore. The Tamil version of Kanguva brought in ₹13.65 crore, with the Hindi and Telugu versions contributing ₹3.25 crore and ₹5 crore, respectively. The film also enjoyed a decent occupancy rate of 37.25%, with its 2D version standing at 12.64%. The wordwide collections currently stands at Rs 40 crore.

Despite an underwhelming debut, Kanguva managed to rank among the highest opening Tamil films of the year, trailing behind OAT, Vettaiyan, Amaran, and Indian 2.

Despite mixed reviews, audiences were thrilled to witness Karthi’s surprising cameo in Kanguva, which took fans by surprise. Appearing in the climax portions, Karthi left a strong impression on audiences. Watching the siblings share the screen became one of the film's most exciting aspects, sending fans into a frenzy.

Anticipating Suriya and Karthi to face off in the sequel, one fan wrote, “Kanguva on 🔥🔥🔥! Surprise cameo by Karthi sir, mind-blowing. Waiting for part 2...”

For context, Karthi and Suriya are set to play dual roles as warriors from the past and modern men, paving the way for Kanguva 2.

Kanguva, directed by Siva, stars Suriya, Bobby Deol and Disha Patani in key roles.
