The post-production of Indian 3, starring Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan, is now in jeopardy following the disappointing reception of its predecessor, Indian 2.

Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan's latest movie, Indian 2, didn't meet the expectations of both critics and audiences. This has led to a series of cascading effects that are likely to cause trouble for its sequel, Indian 3.
According to industry sources, the post-production work of Indian 3 seems to be on thin ice. The producers, Lyca Productions, are cash-strapped as their recent investments didn't fetch the expected results. The production of Indian 2 was in "production hell" owing to this very reason. However, the project was revived with Red Giant Movies bankrolling further production.
The success of Indian 2 was crucial for the sake of Indian 3. It seems that Lyca Productions was relying on the earnings of Indian 2 to fund the post-production work of the sequel. With Indian 2 becoming a huge disaster at the box office and garnering poor reviews from critics, the pre-release deals made by the producers are reportedly under re-negotiation.
Lyca Productions now has two other big projects in the making: Superstar Rajinikanth's Vettaiyan and Ajith Kumar's Vidaamuyarchi. Both these films are nearing completion and gearing up for wide release soon. The company also needs funds to support these movies and handle their promotions.
During the promotions of Indian 2, Kamal Haasan underlined the importance of Indian 3. "I agreed to do Indian 2 because of Indian 3. I can't wait for you all to watch it," Kamal said repeatedly.
Similarly, at the end of Indian 2, the filmmakers revealed a glimpse of Indian 3, promising that the sequel will have all the good stuff that the audience didn't get in this movie.
Indian 2 was expected to hit the screens in January next year.
