Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan's upcoming movie Thug Life is fast approaching completion. Written and directed by Mani Ratnam, the movie is now in the post-production phase. The latest buzz is that the filmmakers have zeroed in on April 10 next year to release the movie in theatres. An official confirmation on the same is awaited.

If the reports are true, Thug Life will directly clash with Telugu superstar Prabhas' The Raja Saab. The horror drama, which is aiming for a pan-India release, has been slated for release on April 10, which is a coveted date for big blockbusters.

The producers of Thug Life seem to have picked this date to capitalize on the holiday of Tamil New Year, providing an extended five-day opening weekend. Since the expectations are already sky-high for the movie, it will benefit from such a long weekend.

Thug Life marks Mani Ratnam's professional reunion with Kamal Haasan after a gap of more than three decades. The last movie the actor-director duo worked on together was the iconic Nayakan in 1987. The cast and crew of Thug Life have been working non-stop at a breakneck pace, and even though the film seems to be mounted on a grand scale and reportedly set in a distant future, Mani Ratnam has managed to complete the shoot without any delays. This could make Thug Life one of the fastest-shot movies in the director's career.

The filmmakers caught the audience's imagination earlier with a title promo, which revealed Kamal Haasan's unique look. Draped in scraps of clothes, Kamal's character embodied the aura of an ancient warrior. Even the rivals he faces have a mythical, fantasy-like quality. Kamal's character is named Rangaraya Sakthivel Nayakar, which seems to be a nod to some of the star’s most iconic roles from previous films.

Thug Life also boasts an impressive supporting cast, including Silambarasan, who joined the project after actors Jayam Ravi and Dulquer Salmaan exited for undisclosed reasons. Trisha, Ashok Selvan, and Ali Fazal are among the other key cast members adding star power to this ambitious production.
