Kamal Haasan - Mani Ratnam project eyeing National Award winner Vidya Balan for the lead role

    The project will see Mani Ratnam and Kamal Haasan reunite after 36 years.

    The recent announcement that Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam will be working together after the production of Indian 2 wraps has movie fans hyped and now it seems that they are eyeing National Award winning actress Vidya Balan to play the lead.

    The project will be Mani Ratnam's and Kamal Haasan's second collaboration after the 1987 crime drama Nayakan, a film that was in Time magazine's top 100 movies of all time.

    Currently, Kamal Haasan is busy filming Shankar's Indian 2, the sequel to the 1996 vigilante thriller which was the highest-grossing movie of the year, The movie was India's official entry for the Oscars that year and also won three National Awards including Best Actor.

    In the movie, Kamal Haasan played the role of Senapathy a former freedom fighter turned vigilante who wants to root out corruption.

    According to a new report the makers of the movie are planning on a 2024 Pongal release for the movie which means it will clash with Prabha's science fiction movie Project K and Suriya's period drama Kanguva.

    Meanwhile, Mani Ratnam Ponnyen Selvan 2 has hit theaters worldwide today and had received positive reactions from critics and audiences.

    The movies are based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's 1955 novel, Ponniyin Selvan, Which focuses on the Chola dynasty specifically Rajaraja Chola and his rise to power.

    Ponniyen Selvan was a huge critical and commercial success becoming the highest-grossing Tamil movie of 2022 and the fifth highest-grossing Tamil movie of all time with a total box office collection of 500 crores.

    Ponniyin Selvan 2 clocks in at two hours and thirty-seven minutes, and whole ten minutes shorter than Part 1.

    The music for the movie is composed by A.R. Rahman and the first single titled Aga Nga has crossed over 18 million views on Youtube in less than two weeks.

    Ponniyin Selven boasts of an ensemble main cast that includes Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Jayaram, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, and Prabhu.
