Jr NTR's Devara crosses Rs 180 cr pre-release revenue, breaks even in USA ahead of premiere
As Devara gears up for a special premiere at Beyond Fest, fans are eager to see if it can replicate the international success of RRR.
Jr NTR in Devara
Telugu superstar Jr NTR’s upcoming film Devara is already making waves before its release, raking in an impressive Rs 180 crore in pre-release theatrical revenue. The movie has earned Rs 133 crore from the Telugu states alone, with other significant contributions coming from Karnataka (Rs 15 crore), Tamil Nadu (Rs 6 crore), Kerala (Rs 0.5 crore), and the Hindi belt (Rs 15 crore). Overseas markets have also shown strong support, with the film bringing in Rs 26 crore globally.
In the USA, Devara has crossed a major milestone by earning more than $5 million through pre-release ticket sales, achieving its break-even point even before its premiere. The producers have confirmed the sale of over 5,000 tickets so far, highlighting the film’s growing buzz in international markets.
Adding to the anticipation, the filmmakers are hosting a special premiere at Beyond Fest, one of the most popular genre film festivals in the USA. This festival played a key role in catapulting SS Rajamouli’s RRR to international fame, eventually helping the film win an Oscar. Devara producers hope that Jr NTR’s goodwill from his standout performance in RRR will extend to Devara, helping the film resonate with local American audiences.
While the Telugu diaspora in the USA remains the largest overseas market for Telugu films, very few Indian movies successfully connect with mainstream American audiences. Whether Devara can replicate the magic of RRR in the USA remains to be seen when the film hits theatres on September 27.
Directed and written by Koratala Siva, Devara is expected to be a major comeback for the director after the setback of his previous film, Acharya. The movie also stars Bollywood actors Janhvi Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan, further elevating its pan-Indian appeal.
In Devara, Jr NTR plays a dual role as both father and son. The film is set against the backdrop of an island overrun by a tribe of sea pirates who have never known fear. Their unchecked violence forces the hero to rise up and instil the fear of God in them.
