Jayasurya faces new sexual abuse allegations: second case filed

Malayalam actor Jayasurya is finding himself in serious trouble amid a growing number of allegations of sexual abuse against him. A second case was registered against the star based on a complaint filed by an actress on Friday.

The new case was registered at a police station in Thiruvananthapuram. According to the actress, Jayasurya grabbed her and sexually exploited her near the toilet on the sets of a movie in Thodupuzha. The case has been filed under sections 354 (outraging the modesty of a woman), 354A (sexual harassment), and 509 (word, gesture, or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code. The same charges were also brought against Jayasurya in an earlier case.

Previously, actress Minu Muneer alleged that Jayasurya groped her and kissed her on the lips on the sets of De Ingottu Nokkiye. This alleged incident also took place when she was exiting the toilet.

Jayasurya, however, has not reacted to the allegations against him. He is reportedly not in the country and has refused to speak to the media when approached.

The Malayalam film industry has been rocked by the explosive Hema Committee report, which revealed rampant power abuse and sexual exploitation within the industry. The findings have sparked a significant debate about the urgent need for systematic change.

Many young stars, including Tovino Thomas and Prithviraj Sukumaran, have welcomed the report and expressed solidarity with the survivors. Meanwhile, senior superstars, including Mohanlal and Mammootty, have refrained from expressing their thoughts on the matter. However, Mohanlal resigned from his post as the president of AMMA, taking moral responsibility in the wake of the Hema Committee report.
