Is Tridev remake with Salman Khan shelved? director Rajiv Rai clarifies

A few days ago, the reports of the 1989 blockbuster Tridev featuring Jackie Shroff, Naseeruddin Shah, and Sunny Deol getting a remake were making headlines. It was being said that superstar Salman Khan will be starring in the film which was supposed to be a contemporary spin on the original. However, director Rajiv Rai has rubbished the reports to be untrue and said that the remake would not happen.

The Bollywood classic Tridev directed by Rajiv was the third highest-grossing film after Salman‘s Maine Pyar Kiya and Ram Lakhan. It was already been remade in Telugu as Nakshatra Poratam. According to a news portal report, Rajiv said that it was during pre-pandemic days that Salman suggested to co-produce Tridev’s Hindi remake. It was never about him acting in the movie.

Rajiv went on to reveal that although he was not inclined toward doing remakes, he had offers. He did not want to ignore Salman’s proposal because he is old friend of his. However, the project took a backseat due to the pandemic and he jumped on to some other project. Later, he admitted that he does not think Tridev will ever happen since it was only at a discussion stage. Further, he also added that whether in his or outside films, he is reluctant even to consider remakes. Well, if reports are to be believed, fans’ excitement will certainly fizzled out knowing that the Tridev remake is not happening.

Meanwhile, Rajiv is currently filming his own small-budget project in Jaipur with newcomers. On the other hand, Salman is geared up for his upcoming projects including Tiger 3 alongside Katrina Kaif and Emraan Hashmi. He is also shooting for Bhaijaan, formerly titled Kabhi Eid Kabhi Diwali, co-starring Pooja Hegde. He will also be doing a cameo in Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan.
