Filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga is a self-proclaimed fan of director Ram Gopal Varma, and RGV's admiration for Sandeep's storytelling prowess and filmmaking ideology is well known. Their connection seems to have only grown stronger as RGV continues to mentor Sandeep.
On Tuesday, RGV shared a video of himself showing something to Sandeep, captioned, "AN ANIMAL showing AN ANIMAL to another ANIMAL in the ANIMAL PARK of RGV DEN."
While Sandeep gained fame across South India with Arjun Reddy and captured the imagination of northern audiences with Kabir Singh, it was Animal that truly catapulted his popularity across the country. Animal can be considered one of the most controversial films in Indian cinema, having sparked polarizing reactions. Not only were audiences divided, but critics were equally split. While some hailed Animal as a 'masterpiece,' others criticized it for promoting toxic masculinity and glorifying violence.
However, RGV was a staunch supporter of Animal. "I loved what filmmaker Adrian Lyne, known for classics like Nine and a Half Weeks, Fatal Attraction, Lolita, etc., said in an interview: a film should not simply be liked or disliked by the audience, but should provoke intense disagreement and debate. That’s exactly what Sandeep Vanga achieved with Animal. There will be massive discussions about Ranbir's character long after its box office run, and I believe the film could even trigger a cultural shift. Animal is not just a film—it’s a social statement," RGV said in his review.
Following the phenomenal success of Animal, Sandeep has announced its sequel, titled Animal Park.
