Kamal Haasan and director Shankar’s most anticipated sequel, Indian 2, has finally arrived in cinemas. The film, which released on July 12, 2024, stars Kamal Haasan in his iconic role as Senapathy, alongside Siddharth. Despite the initial hype surrounding the film, it opened to largely mixed to negative reviews, with viewers criticizing the makers for presenting a not-so-engaging storyline and poorly done prosthetic makeup. The vigilante drama, the sequel to the 1996 blockbuster Indian, revolves around the return of Senapathy. Here’s how much the Shankar directorial collected on its opening day:
Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2 box office collection day 1
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the Kamal Haasan-starrer made Rs 26 crore gross across India on its opening day. Breaking it down by language, Rs 17 crore came from the Tamil version, Rs 1.1 crore from the Hindi version, and Rs 7.9 crore from the Telugu version. This collection is lower compared to Kamal Haasan’s last blockbuster Vikram, which minted around Rs 28 crore on its opening day. Considering the scale and hype surrounding the return of an iconic character from Ulaganayagan’s filmography, the opening numbers suggest that the film might turn out to be one of the weakest in the actor's career. Nonetheless, the film is expected to perform better over the weekend.

Besides Kamal Haasan, the film also boasts an ensemble cast including Siddharth, SJ Suryah, Kajal Aggarwal, Rakul Preet Singh, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Gulshan Grover, Nedumudi Venu, Vivek, Samuthirakani, Bobby Simha, Guru Somasundaram, Delhi Ganesh, Jayaprakash, Manobala, Vennela Kishore, and Deepa Shankar, among others.
