Idly Kadai First Look Poster OUT: Dhanush is all about staying ‘connected to his roots’ in new film

Taking fans by surprise, Tamil actor Dhanush unveiled the first-look poster of his upcoming directorial venture, Idly Kadai, on New Year’s Day. For the unversed, Idly Kadai marks Dhanush's next directorial project following his critically acclaimed hit in 2024, Raayan.

Sharing the first-look posters from Idly Kadai, the actor wrote, “Idly Kadai First Look ❤️ Stay connected to your roots 🙏🙏.”

The newly unveiled first-look posters feature a serene rural backdrop. In the first poster, Dhanush is depicted as a Tamil rural man dressed in simple white attire, holding a bag of vegetables in one hand and two vessels in the other. He is seen entering a small hut, exuding the simplicity of village life.

The second poster showcases Dhanush alongside veteran actor Rajkiran, who is presumed to play Dhanush's father in the film. The duo pose in front of what appears to be their house, adding a heartwarming rural charm. The new posters have struck a chord with fans, who are eagerly awaiting more insights into Dhanush’s latest cinematic offering.

Interestingly, Idly Kadai marks Rajkiran's second collaboration with Dhanush as a director. For the unversed, Rajkiran played the lead role in Dhanush's directorial debut, Pa Paandi (2017).

Along with the first-look posters, the makers have announced that Idly Kadai is set to hit the big screens on April 10, 2025. In an earlier interview, composer GV Prakash Kumar, who is scoring the film's music, revealed that he had already watched 40 minutes of the film and expressed his admiration for Dhanush's work. GV Prakash described Idly Kadai as a rural film and, having previously worked with Dhanush on Asuran and Aadukalam, he crafted a soundtrack that aligns seamlessly with the actor-director's vision. The composer also praised the film’s emotional depth, emphasizing its potential to leave a lasting impact on audiences.

Helmed by Dhanush, the film stars his Thiruchitrambalam co-star Nithya Menen in the lead role, while Arun Vijay portrays the antagonist. On the technical side, cinematography is handled by Kiran Koushik, and editing is overseen by Prasanna GK. The project is co-produced by Dhanush's home production company, Wunderbar Films, in collaboration with Dawn Pictures, marking their debut joint venture.
