As per industry trackers and online portals, Tovino Thomas-starrer Identity is set to release on January 2, 2025. As no other film has claimed this slot, Identity is likely to be the first Malayalam release of 2025.

Identity cast and plot

The film, which is said to be a crime thriller, stars Tovino Thomas and Trisha Krishnan in the lead roles. The film also marks Trisha’s return to Malayalam cinema after a long hiatus. The Ponniyin Selvan actress was last seen in Hey Jude, the Nivin Pauly-starrer that released in 2018.

Vinay Rai, Aju Varghese, Shammi Thilakan, and Mandira Bedi also appear in key roles in the film. Identity is written and directed by Akhil Paul and Anas Khan. The director duo had earlier helmed the 2020 film Forensic, which also starred Tovino Thomas in the lead role.

The makers had recently released the teaser of the film. The gripping teaser showed Alisha (played by Trisha) describing a person’s face to Haran Shankar (Tovino Thomas) as they try to track down the culprit.

Meanwhile, Tovino Thomas’ last release was Ajayante Randam Moshanam in which he was seen in triple roles. The film, which also featured Surabhi Lakshmi and Basil Joseph, opened to positive reception. The film is now streaming on Hotstar.

Trisha, on the other hand, was seen in a special appearance in a song in Vijay-starrer The Greatest of All Time. Apart from Identity, she has several upcoming films, including the Tamil film Vidaamuyarchi with Ajith Kumar.
