Here's why Siva thinks Suriya's Kanguva will work 'pan-India'
Siva is confident that Kanguva’s universal themes of promise and forgiveness will resonate deeply, regardless of language or region.

A few years ago, filmmakers in India primarily made movies for their home state audiences. Today, however, every filmmaker is creating for the whole country, and director Siva is likely joining the pan-India wave with his new film, Kanguva, starring Suriya in the lead.
Kanguva marks a groundbreaking shift for Siva for multiple reasons. Until now, he has focused on traditional dramas aimed at family audiences—films that were moderate in scale and budget. But with Kanguva, he has surprised everyone by stepping into new territory: a fantasy period drama made on a grand budget.
Kanguva is the most expensive film of Suriya’s career and a major gamble for Siva. However, the director is confident that he’s created a powerful film that will resonate with audiences not only in Tamil Nadu but across India.
Siva believes audiences don’t discriminate based on a movie's language if it successfully connects with them emotionally.
“All audiences are the same everywhere. The pan-India approach works because the audience response is universal. If they can emotionally connect with a movie, they won’t care which industry made it. A movie from the US can create waves here if it portrays human emotions effectively,” Siva told Galatta Plus.
Siva shared that he has infused this action drama with emotional elements that appeal to diverse audiences, transcending language and cultural barriers.
“Kanguva is centred on the power of promise and forgiveness. I believe everyone should learn forgiveness—it’s fundamental to being human. This world (of Kanguva) is full of battles and violence, but I have highlighted forgiveness as best as I could,” he added.
Set 700 years in the past, Kanguva follows tribal groups in a pre-civilization world, exploring themes of rebirth and redemption. Besides Suriya, the film also stars Bobby Deol as the main antagonist and is set to hit screens on November 14.
