Gaganachari
Anarkali Marikar and Gokul Suresh's superhit sci-fi mockumentary, Gaganachari, has finally made its much-awaited OTT debut. After a long wait, the Arun Chandu directorial is now available for streaming on Amazon Prime in Malayalam with English subtitles.
Audiences, who were eagerly anticipating the Malayalam film's release, can now stream the sci-fi comedy-drama on Prime Video. Gaganachari initially premiered in theaters in June 2024.
Gaganachari plot
Directed by Arun Chandu, the Malayalam sci-fi mockumentary stars Gokul Suresh and Anarkali Marikar and is set in a dystopian future in the year 2040, where three bachelors live in an apocalypse bunker. Things take a turn when a female extraterrestrial on the run comes to their residence, turning their lives upside down. The film delves into themes of bias, love, superstition, and the unknown, told through satirical elements. It also features Aju Varghese and Ganesh Kumar in key roles.
Audience reception of Gaganachari
Upon its release, the film gradually made a mark and received overwhelming responses, thanks to positive word of mouth, and emerged as a sleeper hit. Audiences were impressed by the unique screenplay and the outstanding performances of the lead actors. The characters played by Ganesh Kumar and Anarkali Marikar received massive appreciation from viewers for their quirks and the hilarious delivery of their dialogues.
Gaganachari universe in the making
Following the film's success, the makers decided to expand its universe and announced a sequel featuring Suresh Gopi in the titular role, titled Maniyan Chittappan. Interestingly, the director had earlier mentioned in an interview with The Cue that they initially wrote Maniyan Chittappan. But because Maniyan Chittappan required a large budget and a well-known star, Gaganachari was written as a trial project. However, it turned out to be a compelling concept. Based on the first-look poster of Maniyan Chittappan, the film may feature an intergalactic mad scientist character with a vibe reminiscent of Rick and Morty.
