Gadar 2 Vs OMG 2 Box Office Opening Weekend: Sunny Deol starrer enters 100 crore club, Akshay’s film emerges as a hit

Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel starrer Gadar was a blockbuster hit when it released back in 2001. Despite clashing at the box office with Aamir Khan’s epic saga Lagaan, it managed to win hearts. But who would have thought that Tara Singh and Sakeena would return to theatres 22 years later and break records all over again! Gadar 2, which arrived on the big screen last Friday, has managed to enter the Rs 100 crore club on the opening weekend itself, within just 3 days.

Sharing the collection made by Gadar 2 in the last three days, trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted: “TARA SINGH SMASHES THE #BO WITH HIS SLEDGE HAMMER… #Gadar2 creates #Gadar at the #BO… The GLORIOUS opening weekend proves, yet again, that well-made desi entertainers will never go out of fashion… All eyes on #IndependenceDay: Picture abhi baaki hain… Fri 40.10 cr, Sat 43.08 cr, Sun 51.70 cr. Total: ₹ 134.88 cr. #India biz.” He further stated that if this was a solo release, Sunny paaji’s film would have easily raked in another Rs 30 crore. Meanwhile OMG 2, which clashed with Gadar 2, has also emerged as a hit.

Starring Bollywood’s Khiladi Akshay Kumar along with Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam, the satirical comedy drama saw a lukewarm opening day with a collection of Rs 10.26 crore. But on day 2, OMG 2 raked in Rs 15.30 crore. On Sunday the film collected Rs 17.55 crore, bringing the total collection to a whopping Rs 43.11 crore. It has now been declared as a ‘smash hit’. Well, that’s a big achievement, especially if you keep in mind the major clash that OMG 2 faced at the ticket windows with Gadar 2.
