Gadar 2 vs OMG 2 Box Office Collection: Sunny Deol starrer takes lead over Akshay Kumar's film on Day 1

Trade analysts are predicting that Gadar 2 may earn anywhere between Rs 30 crore to Rs 35 crore on the first day of its release, as against Rs 7 crore to Rs 9 crore for OMG 2.

Gadar 2 recorded a stronger opening at the box office compared to OMG 2 on the first day of release, with most early estimates pegging afternoon occupancy rate of over 50% for Sunny Deol’s movie. On the other hand, Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2 is said to have registered an occupancy rate of below 50%.

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Gadar 2’s afternoon occupancy rate stood at 53.1%, while for OMG 2 it was 46.86%. In addition, trade analysts are predicting that Gadar 2 may earn anywhere between Rs 30 crore to Rs 35 crore on the first day of its release, as against Rs 7 crore to Rs 9 crore for OMG 2.

Notably, Gadar 2 could be the first major box-office success for Sunny Deol after an average hit Yamla Pagla Deewana which minted Rs 55 crore in January 2011. Most other movies ever since had turned out to be major flops on the cinema ticket window.

Directed by Anil Sharma, Gadar 2, is a sequel to the original 2001 film starring Sunny Deol as Tara Singh and Ameesha Patel as Sakeena. The movie is written in the backdrop of the 1971 Indo-Pakistan war, and focuses on Tara Singh, his wife Sakeena and their son Jeete.

On the other hand, OMG 2, a satirical comedy-drama film, also a sequel to OMG – Oh My God! (2012), revolves around the story of Kanti Sharan Mudgal, a staunch devotee of Lord Shiva who discovers one day his son is thrown out of school for immoral conduct and. As the story unfolds, Kanti discovers that his son has been a victim of misinformation and misguidance. The movie was involved in controversies ever since its trailer was first released for the public.
