Fukrey 3 Vs The Vaccine War Box Office Day 2: The comedy sequel takes lead, Vivek Agnihotri’s film struggles to pick
While Pulkit Samrat's Fukrey 3 collected Rs 7.5 crore, Nana Patekar starrer The Vaccine War earned only Rs 80 lakhs on the second day of release at the box office.
The third instalment of the Fukrey franchise Fukrey 3 clashed with Vivek Agnihotri’s film The Vaccine War on Thursday. Despite average reviews, the comedy sequel became the top choice of the audience in cinemas. The film had a good opening, however, it witnessed a little decline the following day. The medical thriller, on the other hand, continued to struggle on Day 2 after recording a poor collection on the opening day.
As per industry tracker Sacnilk, Fukrey 3 minted Rs 7.5 crore on its second day of release. The total collection now stands at Rs16.32 crore. The Vaccine War, which earned Rs 0.85 crore on Day 1, continued to remain steady and collected Rs 85 lakh, taking the total collection to Rs 1.70 crore. Well, if the trend follows, the medical thriller would have no option but to depend on the OTT platform to balance the loss.
The Vaccine War tells the story of the development of the vaccine Covaxin during the Covid-19 pandemic in India while paying tribute to the dedication of the medical fraternity and scientists. The film stars Nana Patekar, Pallavi Joshi, Nivedita Bhattacharya, Anupam Kher, and Sapthami Gowda in pivotal roles. Directed by Vivek Agnihotri, the film is based on ICMR’s Balram Bhargava’s boo Going Viral.
Fukrey 3 came six years after Fukrey Returns and 10 years after the first instalment, bringing back Fukras- Pulkit Samrat, Varun Sharma, and Manjot Singh. Richa Chadha and Pankaj Tripathi also reprised their roles as Bholi Punjaban and Panditji respectively. Ali Fazal, who appeared in the first two instalments, is not a part of the third instalment. Written by Vipul Vig and directed by Mrighdeep Singh Lamba, the film has been bankrolled by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani under the banner of Excel Entertainment. The film arrived in theatres on September 28, 2023.
