Footage Trailer: Vishak Nair and Manju Warrier present a nail-biting glimpse | Watch

The wait is over! The trailer of Manju Warrier and Vishak Nair’s upcoming mystery thriller, Footage, has finally been released. Bollywood director Anurag Kashyap, who is presenting the film, unveiled the trailer on his social media handles. Directed by editor-turned-director Saiju Sreedharan, the film stars Manju Warrier, Vishak Nair, and Gayathri Ashok in the lead roles. The film is scheduled for a theatrical release on August 2, 2024.

The new mystery thriller opens on a heartwarming note, with a couple living a peaceful life together and documenting their lives through videos. However, their lives take a turn for the worse when a stranger enters the scene. Although it is unclear if the stranger, played by Manju Warrier, is a friend or foe, it is evident that the couple is now being followed by someone. Without revealing much of its plot, the trailer has captivated the audience with its gripping setting. The found-footage aspect of the film has particularly piqued the interest of audiences eagerly awaiting the film’s release.

First of its kind in Malayalam cinema

The upcoming film is set to introduce the found-footage style of storytelling for the first time in Malayalam cinema. For the unversed, found footage is a film technique where the entire movie or a major portion of it is depicted as though it consists of video recordings made by characters within the narrative, which are subsequently ‘discovered’ and showcased to the audience. Besides the lead cast, the film will also feature the late actor Mamukoya and Nanjiamma, among others. Director Saiju is also in charge of editing the film, with popular composer Sushin Shyam scoring the music.

Anurag Kashyap about Footage

Earlier, director Anurag Kashyap had revealed his excitement about presenting the Malayalam film. In a video, he said, “Hi, this is Anurag Kashyap, and I'm extremely proud to present Footage. It's a new Malayalam film, and over the last year, we have constantly been seeing such amazing work coming from Malayalam cinema. They're reinventing genres and trying new things. Footage is a prime example of something so new that they have tried, and it really worked. I'm honored to be associated with this film.”
