Dunki X Review: Shah Rukh Khan starrer receives mixed reactions, disappointed netizens trend SRKs Disaster Donkey
Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, Dunki focuses on an illegal immigration technique named donkey flight in a heartwarming saga of a perilous journey, borders, friendships and nostalgia for home.
After Pathaan and Jawan, Shah Rukh Khan’s fans have put high hopes on his third film, Dunki. But going by early reviews on X (formerly known as Twitter), some were left unfulfilled by the anticipation surrounding the movie. The film has finally arrived in theatres, and so are the reactions on the micro-blogging site.
Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, Dunki focuses on an illegal immigration technique named donkey flight in a heartwarming saga of a perilous journey, borders, friendships and nostalgia for home. It revolves around four friends from a village in Punjab who share a common dream to go to England. Featuring Shah Rukh Khan, Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal, Boman Irani, Vikram Kochhar, Anil Grover and Jyoti Subhash, the film has already amassed Rs 15 crore via advance booking on the first day of release.
After watching the movie, a user tweeted, “It starts slow with a punch of humour and so much emotion where Comedy is subjective and I didn't find most of the jokes funny, emotions do hit hard. Overall a decent buildup! 2nd half is the PEAK, a rollercoaster ride of emotions!#SRK's best 2023 acting performance!” The second user differed and wrote, “Disappointment dunked! Dunki tries to juggle dreams & laughs but drops both. SRK & Hirani team up for a forgettable flight - clichéd plots, forced humour, and wasted potential. Find a different cinema adventure.”
On the other hand, a section of netizens who were disappointed with Shah Rukh’s film started a hashtag of ‘SRKs Disaster Donkey’. A user reacted, “Don't waste your hard-earned money on this vahiyat #Dunki movie SRKs DISASTER DONKEY#DunkiReview.” “#DunkiReview worst movie of Hirani. Absolutely no entertainment. Full boring movie. The comedy looks old and nothing new in the screenplay. Only Vicky Kaushal acting is better,” said a netizen. “#DunkiReview...my gut feeling was right hirani messed up big time dunki 1st half is not good at all...though it has its moments but feels like seen this been there...and the use of Punjabi is way too much...so yes there will be no hattrick for SRK for sure.”
Meanwhile, Dunki is jointly backed by Red Chillies Entertainment, JIO Studios and Rajkumar Hirani Films. It was released across 4000 screens in the country and over 13k shows on December 21, 2023.
