Dunki Vs Salaar Box Office: Shah Rukh Khan starrer sails smooth amid storm stirred by Prabhas' actioner
Dunki on Sunday registered its strongest day, earning Rs 32 crore. The film’s total domestic collection now stands at Rs 107 crore.
Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan and South sensation Prabhas are competing at the box office with their latest releases Dunki and Salaar respectively. While Prabhas’ actioner has taken the box office by storm ever since it was released on December 22, Shah Rukh Khan’s comedy-drama holding its fort strong. So far, the action-drama has fetched thunderous numbers and surpassed Rs 400 crore in just three days, while Dunki crossed Rs 200 crore.
As per industry tracker Sacnilk, Dunki on Sunday registered its strongest day, earning Rs 32 crore. The film’s total domestic collection now stands at Rs 107 crore. Globally, the film has fared well in Europe, North America and the Middle East. The film has achieved Rs 200 feat on Sunday, making it the fourth film to do its opening weekend this year. Talking about Salaar, the Telugu actioner regained momentum on Sunday, amassing Rs 64.07 crore in India, taking the total domestic collection to an impressive Rs 211.12 crore. Amid Salaar’s avalanche, Dunki is expected to sail smoothly given Shah Rukh’s star power and its appeal to Hindi audiences.
Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, Dunki is based on an illegal immigration technique, Donkey flight, starring Shah Rukh alongside Taapsee Pannu, Boman Irani, Vikram Kochhar and Anil Grover. Made on a budget of ₹120 crore, the film also has a special appearance of Vicky Kaushal in the film. While a section of the audience were moved by its emotional impact, several others found the movie underwhelming. The film marks Shah Rukh’s first collaboration with Rajkumar Hirani and Taapsee Pannu. Backed by Red Chillies Entertainment, the film arrived in theatres a day ahead of Salaar i.e December 21, 2023.
Salaar is an action drama revolving around two childhood friends Deva and Vardharaja Mannar played by Prabhas and Prithviraj Sukumaran respectively. After years of separation, they meet and end up in a web of power politics. Sriya Reddy, Shruti Haasan, Eashwari Rao, John Vijay Jagapathi Babu and Tinnu Anand among others are in supporting roles. Directed by Prashanth Neel and backed by Hombale Films, the film has mostly received positive reviews for its gripping narrative and extra-ordinary action sequences.
