Dunki overview: All you need to know about the Shah Rukh Khan starrer - from release date to the budget

After delivering blockbusters like Pathaan and Jawan, Shah Rukh Khan is all set to star in the much-awaited Christmas release Dunki. Yes, the year is going to end with the SRK magic too proving that 2023 was officially his era. Here, is all you need to know about the movie which has everyone pumped up with anticipation.

Dunki has been directed by Rajkumar Hirani and marks his first collaboration with Shah Rukh. Apart from the superstar, it also stars Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal, Boman Irani, Vikram Kochhar, Anil Grover, and Parikshit Sahni. After Pathaan and Jawan being high-budget movies that were made on a grand scale, Dunki happens to be the SRK movie which is made on a low budget. The total budget of the movie is Rs 85 crore. The film is all set to be released on December 22, 2023.

Talking about the rumored remuneration of the lead cast, Shah Rukh is said to have charged a whooping Rs 28 crore for the movie. While Taapsee who plays the megastar’s love interest is said to have charged Rs 11 crore for the same. Vicky who is said to have an extended cameo appearance in the movie has reportedly charged Rs 12 crore for the movie. Boman Irani who also has an important role in the movie is said to have charged Rs 15 crore for the same.

The synopsis of Dunki is based on the concept of ‘Donkey Flight’ which involves people going to Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom without a passport or a visa. The plot will tell the story of Hardy (Shah Rukh) and his friends who are illegal immigrants as they cross the border to go to the United Kingdom to fulfill their dreams. They soon realize that the journey is not as easy as they had envisioned with many obstacles on the path.
