Drishyam 2 becomes one of Ajay Devgn's biggest box office openers of all time, Tabu beats her own 2022 record with the film
Ajay Devgn led Drishyam 2 will hopefully end Bollywood's run of box office duds, records a mega opening on day 1.
Ajay Devgn ’s highly anticipated Drishyam 2 has brought the box office back to life. The thriller is looking at excellent Day 1 numbers after opening to rave reviews. The movie which is the sequel to the 2015 film by the same name has surpassed Kartik Aaryan led Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 in Day 1 box office numbers which is one of the biggest hits of the year.
Drishyam 2 which also stars Shriya Saran, Akshaye Khanna and Tabu is key roles apart from Ajay, has marked an opening of Rs. 15.38 crores according to trade analyst Taran Adarsh. The movie beats Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, which also starred Tabu in a key role, which earned over Rs. 14 crores on its opening day and went on to cross Rs. 185 crores at the box office during its theatrical run.
Drishyam 2, in fact, beats the mega opening of Ajay’s pre-covid mega release Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior as well, by a small margin. In January 2020, Tanhaji had earned Rs. 15.10 crores at the box office. The movie is among his top five biggest openers at the box office and stands in the fourth place after Sigham Returns, Golmaal Again, Total Dhamaal moving Tanhaji into the fifth position.
The thriller which spells good news for Bollywood despite being a delayed sequel, also is an excellent means for Ajay to redeem himself at the box office after delivering two duds with Runway 34 and Thank God.
Ajay’s film is looking at an excellent opening weekend of over Rs. 50 crores if it continues its magical run. The movie has performed particularly well in Maharashtra and with the overall positive word of mouth it will hopefully bring in good business from other states as well.
Drishyam 2 has been directed Abhishek Pathak and is a remake of the Malayalam film by the same name starring mega star Mohanlal which released in 2021.
