Double iSmart Twitter Review: Has Ram Pothineni-starrer saved Puri Jagannadh from the failure of Liger? Find out here

After much anticipation, director Puri Jagannadh’s latest action drama, Double iSmart, has finally made its theatrical debut. Starring Ram Pothineni and Sanjay Dutt, the Telugu film revolves around a gangster’s mission to obtain a chip implanted in Shankar’s brain (played by Ram). Here’s how the first-day-first-show audiences have reacted to the film.

Many users took to social media to express their disappointment with the Ram Pothineni-starrer sequel. One user wrote, “Worst dialogues, worst comedy, absolute cringe. The man who once gave blockbusters like Pokiri has directed the worst first half of his career... Wtf is this #DoubleISMART? Ali goyyala ennada comedy idhu thooooo. #PuriJagannadh competing with Indian 2 for the worst film award.” 

While a few users felt that the film was entertaining, they also pointed out its lag and the vulgar language used throughout. Another user wrote, “#DoubleiSmart Shocked and Surprised, just finished the first half. It is lewd, vulgar, and outright distasteful for the most part.” 

Amid the negative reception, some users defended the film, calling it a sure-shot entertainer to watch during the holiday weekend. “Just watched #DoubleISMART. Decent first half followed by an entertaining second half. Ram and Puri are back with a bang,” one user wrote. 

Ram Pothineni and Sanjay Dutt’s performances have been praised by audiences, who also lauded composer Mani Sharma for delivering power-packed and energetic music that sets the stage for the stylish performances by the lead actors. 

For the unversed, the director's previous film Liger, starring Vijay Deverakonda and Ananya Panday, that released in 2022, was a box office bomb. Hence the director has pinned all his hopes on his latest commercial entertainer Double iSmart. 

Double iSmart cast and OTT platform details

Written and directed by Puri Jagannadh, Double iSmart stars Ram Pothineni, Kavya Thapar, Sanjay Dutt, Sayaji Shinde, Getup Srinu, Gurbani, Mohammad Ali, Makrand Deshpande, Tofan Pirani, and Sundeep Verma, among others. After its theatrical run, the film will be available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video, which acquired the OTT rights for a whopping Rs 33 crore.
