Double iSmart: Release date, trailer, budget, cast and everything you need to know about Ram Pothineni’s film

Ram Pothineni’s upcoming sci-fi action drama Double iSmart is one of the most anticipated Telugu releases, eagerly awaited by fans this Independence Day weekend. Directed by popular filmmaker Puri Jagannadh, the film is a spiritual sequel to the actor-director duo’s superhit first installment, iSmart Shankar. The sequel stars Ram Pothineni, Kavya Thapar, and Sanjay Dutt in lead roles. 

Double iSmart release date

The Puri Jagannadh directorial is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on August 15, 2024. While several other films are slated for release on the same Independence Day holiday weekend, Double iSmart will clash with Ravi Teja’s Mr. Bachchan at the Telugu box office. Meanwhile, in Tamil Nadu, the film will go head-to-head with Vikram’s much-awaited period drama Thangalaan. 

Double iSmart plot

The upcoming sci-fi actioner tells the story of Big Bull, played by Sanjay Dutt, who wishes to achieve immortality. He plans to accomplish this by performing a brain transfer experiment through Shankar, who has a mysterious chip inserted into his head. As he attempts to transplant his brain into Ram Pothineni’s character, a conflict arises between the two.

The trailer showcases a loud-mouthed Shankar, reprised by Ram Pothineni, who fears no one and exudes a badass persona. His love interest in the film is played by Kavya Thapar, who appears to be an affluent city girl. Sanjay Dutt, as Big Bull, plans to capture Shankar to obtain the chip implanted in his brain, which would help him achieve immortality. The trailer also features explosive dialogues and high-voltage action sequences, promising to be a treat for action movie lovers.

Puri Jagannadh has directed this film. Starring Ram Pothineni, Kavya Thapar, and Sanjay Dutt, the film also features Ali, Sayaji Shinde, Makrand Deshpande, Bani J, Getup Srinu, and Gurbani in supporting roles. The film is jointly produced by Puri Jagannadh and Charmy Kaur under Puri Connects. Mani Sharma is the music composer, while Gianni Gianneli and Shyam K. Naidu handle the cinematography, and Karthika Srinivas R is the editor.

According to reports, the film has been made on a budget of Rs 50 crore.

The digital rights of the film have been acquired by Amazon Prime Video for a whopping Rs 33 crore, and it will be available for streaming on the OTT platform after its theatrical run.
