Did Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra just confirm Karna with Suriya? Here’s what the director said

Tamil star Suriya and acclaimed filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s magnum opus Karna is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated films. Although the reports about the project have been making rounds in the media for quite some time, the film is yet to commence production, further fuelling the rumours about the film getting shelved. However, director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra recently confirmed that the film is 100% underway!

Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra on Karna with Suriya

During a recent media interaction, the director was asked if the project with Suriya is happening or if it has been shelved. To which, the director said 'fingers crossed' and expressed confidence about the film progressing quickly. He said, “Fingers crossed! Plans are 100% underway.”

Touted to be a massive project, the film will mark Suriya’s debut in the Hindi film industry. According to rumors, Suriya and Janhvi Kapoor have been cast in the lead roles for Karna.

Suriya and Rakeysh Omprakash’s mythological drama

As per reports, the film will see Suriya play the role of Karna, the brave warrior prince and elder half-brother of the Pandavas from the epic Mahabharata. While there has been no official word about Janhvi Kapoor’s role, it is speculated that she may play Vrushali, Karna’s wife. Academy Award-winning composer AR Rahman is said to be in discussions to score the music for the film, which will be helmed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra.

The film is set to be made simultaneously in Hindi and Tamil and will be dubbed in Malayalam, Kannada, and Telugu. Sources also suggest that the magnum opus will be made on a massive budget, and official announcements are expected soon. Reports indicate that the film will feature some of the finest talents as part of the epic drama’s crew.

Karna to be made in two parts

Earlier, the film’s screenwriter and popular author Anand Neelakantan shared that Karna will be released in two parts, with the first installment currently in pre-production. He also confirmed that he has penned both the script and screenplay for the film. When asked about the rumored cast, Anand Neelakantan stated that he could not disclose any key details until the official announcement is made. However, he hinted that a prominent Tamil actor would take on the lead role, further confirming speculations of Suriya’s association with the film.
