    In an incredible feat, Dhanush's 2024 period action film Captain Miller has won the Best Foreign Film at the UK National Film Awards.

    Dhanush-starrer Captain Miller was one of the celebrated Kollywood films of this year. The film, directed by Arun Matheswaran, received much appreciation from Indian audiences upon its release, who hailed the leading star Dhanush’s impressive performance.

    Now, in an incredible feat, the Dhanush-starrer has been recognised as the ‘Best Foreign Language Film’ at the UK National Film Awards. The period action drama, set in the British era, focuses on an important chapter in Indian history. 

    Taking it to his social media handles, director Arun Matheswaran expressed his gratitude over winning the award. He wrote, “Thank you @nationalfilmawards! @dhanushkraja @sathyajyothifilms #CaptainMiller." The producers of the film also shared photos from the award ceremony and wrote, “Best Foreign Language Film - #CaptainMiller at the National Film Awards, London. Thanking the whole team for the efforts & hard work through the process of making #CaptainMiller.” 

    The 2024 Tamil movie beat Indian film Bhakshak, You Are Not Alone: Fighting the Wolf Pack (Spain), The Parades (Japan), Red Ollero: Mabuhay is a Lie (Philippines), Sixty Minutes (Germany), and The Heartbreak Agency (Germany) to bag the international laurel.

    Dhanush, whose last Hollywood appearance was in the Russo Brothers’ film The Gray Man, is slowly making his presence felt in the international film space. Now, with his Tamil film winning the UK National Film Award, his popularity is set to grow further in the global space. 

    Captain Miller plot and cast

    Directed and written by Arun Matheswaran, Captain Miller follows Dhanush in the titular role, playing a member of an oppressed community living in British India. Dhanush's character, Analeesan, also known as Captain Miller, joins the British army to avenge the ill-treatment stemming from casteist practices of the period. 

    Besides Dhanush, the film also stars Shivarajkumar, Sundeep Kishan, Priyanka Mohan, Nassar, and Vinoth Kishan, among others. The film's music was composed by GV Prakash Kumar.
