Dhadkan 2: Are Akshay Kumar and Shilpa Shetty reuniting for sequel of the romantic drama? Deets inside

It’s raining sequels in Bollywood. The producers of Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty and Shilpa Shetty starrer Dhadkan have approached director Dharmesh Darshan for its sequel. After the monstrous success of Gadar 2, the makers have once again offered the film to the director hoping that it is the right time to take a chance with the second part of the 2000 cult classic. However, Dharmesh has not yet given his nod but decided to bring a fresh story with some of the original stars if not all of them.

Dharmesh revealed that he has been having meetings with producers to revive the film. He already made it clear to them that he will make the film only if they don’t compromise on any front. “I have a responsibility when I am working on the second part. At the moment, I am not sure if it will be a sequel or introduce a new chapter in the Dhadkan franchise. I have an idea. It will be something fresh,” he says, adding, “It will tell a fresh story, and it will be nice to inculcate some of the original stars, if not all of them. That is the idea,” he told Hindustan Times.

Well, the makers have not made any official announcement of the project. They have also not decided about the cast. However, there are chances that Akshay Kumar, Shilpa Shetty and Suniel Shetty or any one of them may have a role in the upcoming movie as hinted by the director. Earlier, Dharmesh revealed that he has been declining the offer for a decade considering Dhadkan is a classic, adding that sequels are always tricky. Also, he doesn’t want to encash on a film that has stood the test of time.

Dhadkan was a massive hit in 2000 grossing Rs 26 crore worldwide. Backed by Ratan Jain, the film narrates a love story with a twisted love triangle. It follows Anjali(Shilpa)and Dev (Suniel)are in love with each other and plan to marry. Under dire circumstances, Anjali gets married to Ram(Akshay). Years later, when Dev shows up to reunite with Anjali, she has fallen in love with Ram. The film not only features impressive performances but soulful songs composed by Nadeem-Shravan.
