The latest Telugu blockbuster Devara Part 1, starring Jr NTR, has found itself at the centre of a heated debate regarding its box office figures. While the movie's producers and distributors maintain that the film is a commercial success, critics have speculated that the reported collections are inflated.

Producer Naga Vamsi, who distributed Devara in the Telugu states, strongly refuted these claims. "Even if I say that I am happy and made money, you won't accept it. When we put out the first-day collection, everyone claimed that it was false. Why would we give wrong numbers?" he stated, addressing the rumours head-on.

According to Vamsi, Devara had a massive global opening, grossing over Rs 172 crore on its first day alone—making it the highest opening for Jr NTR outside of RRR. The film reportedly grossed Rs 304 crore in just three days and reached Rs 466 crore by the end of its first ten days in theatres.

"I bought the theatrical rights of the film and sold it to my distributors. Every distributor who bought the film is happy," Vamsi assured, adding that the bulk of the film's earnings came from the Telugu states.

Despite receiving mixed reviews, even from fan screenings, Devara has performed exceptionally well at the box office. Vamsi stressed the authenticity of the reported numbers, saying, "The first three days, all tickets were sold out for Devara in Hyderabad."

He also emphasized that publishing box office figures is a common practice, not only in Indian cinema but globally. "We put out the collection numbers to make the fans happy. We don't do it to show off to someone or prove something. This is a culture followed everywhere, including in Hollywood," he noted.

Devara is written and directed by Koratala Siva, and the film also stars Saif Ali Khan, and Janhvi Kapoor in the lead roles.
