Demonte Colony 2 OTT release date confirmed: When, where to stream the hit horror drama

ZEE5 on Monday confirmed the digital premiere date of its latest Tamil offering Demonte Colony 2. The movie will be available for streaming on its platform starting September 27, a little over a month after its theatrical debut.

Typically, new Tamil films make their streaming debuts within the first four weeks of release. However, ZEE5 seemingly delayed the digital release of Demonte Colony 2 due to its own programming calendar. The platform had recently acquired several high-profile Tamil films and appeared to space out their releases, ensuring each got adequate attention.

Last week, ZEE5 made Raghu Thatha available for streaming, which was released in cinemas alongside Demonte Colony 2 on August 15. Given the strong buzz around Demonte Colony 2, the platform held it back for a special holiday season release.

The movie turned out to be a major box office hit, giving director R. Ajay Gnanamuthu a much-needed comeback. Ajay made his directorial debut in 2015 with the first Demonte Colony film but struggled with subsequent projects. His last film, Cobra, starring Chiyaan Vikram, was a commercial and critical flop. It was a significant setback for Ajay, who, during the promotions for Demonte Colony 2, distanced himself from Cobra, revealing that he was forced to direct the film despite not fully believing in the script.

Initially, Ajay's assistant was supposed to helm Demonte Colony 2, but the director returned to the franchise to secure a quick success and restore his reputation. The movie opened to mostly positive reviews and held strong at the box office, even while clashing with Vikram’s highly anticipated period drama Thangalaan.
