Can Mollywood fans forget Suraj Venjaramoodu’s iconic comedic role as Dashamoolam Damu from the Mammootty-starrer Chattambinadu? Though Chattambinadu was released in 2009, Suraj’s character, Dashamoolam Damu, gained huge popularity after social media pages began using his face to create memes. The comedic character holds a significant place in Malayalam pop culture. So, when director Shafi, who had helmed Chattambinadu, announced a sequel, fans were thrilled at the prospect of seeing one of the most iconic characters back on the big screen again. However, according to Suraj, the film will be directed by another popular director!

Dijo Jose Antony to direct Suraj Venjaramoodu’s Dashamoolam Damu

During a recent media interaction for the promotions of his latest film, Grrr, actor Suraj Venjaramoodu revealed that young Malayalam director Dijo Jose Antony, known for films like Jana Gana Mana, Queen, and Malayalee From India, will be directing the spin-off. 

The actor added that he is aware of the challenge of living up to the audience's expectations for Dashamoolam Damu. “It's really hard to make a spin-off of that character. If the director and writer have taken up the challenge bravely, then I will also say okay to the project and take up the challenge,” Suraj said.

Suraj Venjaramoodu’s ther projects

Meanwhile, Suraj’s latest film, Grrr, starring Kunchacko Boban and himself in the lead, got a mixed reception. The film revolves around two men who get trapped in a lion’s enclosure at a zoo in Thiruvananthapuram. 

Suraj’s new film, Nadanna Sambhavam, starring Biju Menon, hit the big screens today (June 21). Apart from Nadanna Sambhavam, the actor will be seen in the Dileep-starrer Professor Dinkan 3D. Suraj will also be making his OTT debut with the upcoming web series titled Nagendran's Honeymoons. 

He also has Adios Amigos, alongside Asif Ali, due for release on August 2, 2024. The actor is currently filming for his upcoming movie Extra Decent-ED, directed by Aamir Pallikal.
