Coolie actor Upendra celebrates 56th birthday with UI poster, release plans

Kannada movie star Upendra celebrated his 56th birthday on Wednesday. On the occasion, he unveiled the release plans for his upcoming magnum opus UI with a new poster. The poster, bathed in different hues of red, suggests a brewing storm of rage. Upendra can be seen mounted on a dark horse with horns. The poster promises a movie that will be both a visual spectacle and an epic that captures the audience's imagination.

Upendra revealed plans to release UI in theatres worldwide in October. However, the exact release date has not been confirmed, though it’s likely the movie will hit the screens during the Diwali or puja holidays.

UI holds special significance for Upendra’s fans as it marks his return to the director’s chair after an eight-year gap. While Upendra is one of Kannada cinema’s leading actors, his reputation as a groundbreaking filmmaker holds an even higher place in the hearts of Kannada audiences. Though it may be challenging to draw large crowds for movies where he stars as the lead, his directorial projects are typically open to packed houses and record-breaking collections. That’s the level of stardom his directorial work enjoys.

Upendra’s last directorial venture was Uppi 2, a sequel to his 1999 cult classic Upendra. UI, however, promises to deliver everything fans love about Upendra's films, including political satire and bold storytelling that has become his trademark.

Set in a distant future, UI features Upendra as a mysterious messiah. The film also stars Reeshma Nanaiah, Murali Sharma, Sunny Leone, and Nidhi Subbaiah among others.

In the meantime, Upendra is busy shooting for his upcoming Tamil movie, Coolie, where he shares screen space with Superstar Rajinikanth. Upendra has also announced another big-ticket movie on the occasion of his birthday. The project titled 45 will mark the directorial debut of composer Arjun Janya. The film will also stars Shivarajkumar and Raj B Shetty in the lead roles.
