Director Mallidi Vassishta on Friday addressed the postponement of his upcoming film Vishwambhara, starring Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi. The movie was initially slated for a Sankranti 2024 release, one of the most coveted holiday windows for blockbuster films in the Telugu states. However, Vassishta revealed that the decision to delay the release was made as a personal favour to actor Ram Charan and producer Dil Raju.

“Let’s enjoy Ram Charan’s film this Sankranti,” Vassishta said, acknowledging that Vishwambhara was completed on schedule, but its release was deferred to give Game Changer—Ram Charan’s highly anticipated film directed by S. Shankar—a better chance at the box office.

The decision to shift Vishwambhara’s release was made after a discussion between Chiranjeevi, Ram Charan, and the producers of both films. “For the sake of Ram Charan and Raju garu, we discussed with Chiranjeevi and took this decision. We completed our film on schedule, keeping the release date in mind. But, due to Raju garu's request, we postponed,” explained Vassishta.

Game Changer was originally expected to release during the Christmas holiday, but after weighing global box office potential, the producers opted to shift the release to Sankranti to capitalize on the festive season’s theatre footfalls. Producer Dil Raju expressed his gratitude to the Vishwambhara team for their cooperation. “We planned Game Changer for Christmas, but when we considered the worldwide box office, we felt Sankranti would be a better option. Not just me, but even distributors across the country and overseas felt the same,” Raju noted.

“We requested Chiranjeevi garu and UV Productions, explaining that we have made Game Changer at a huge cost over three years. They responded favourably and agreed to push the release of Vishwambhara to a later date,” Raju added in a video message, thanking the cast and crew for their understanding.
