Once expected to become Dulquer Salmaan’s first film to cross the Rs 100 crore mark, Lucky Baskhar now faces an uphill battle at the box office. With a strong start powered by positive reviews and Deepavali fervour, the film’s momentum has recently slowed. Adding to the challenge, Suriya’s highly anticipated Kanguva is set to dominate theatres nationwide, making it even harder for Lucky Baskhar to reach its target.
As of this week, Lucky Baskhar has earned approximately Rs 87 crore globally. On Tuesday, the producers announced that the film was still “on track” for the Rs 100 crore club. However, with competition from several releases, especially in the Telugu-speaking states, that goal seems less certain.
After a stellar first week, Lucky Baskhar saw a notable dip, particularly in the Telugu states. With strong performances by films like Amaran, starring Sivakarthikeyan, Lucky Baskhar struggled to maintain its initial enthusiasm. Nonetheless, the film has achieved unexpected success in Tamil Nadu, where it grossed over Rs 10 crore despite facing stiff competition from Amaran, Bloody Beggar, and Brother.
Now, with Kanguva set to claim a majority of screens in Tamil Nadu, and Amaran still performing well, Lucky Bhaskar will be relegated to limited showings in both Tamil and Telugu markets. Additionally, Varun Tej’s Matka, due on November 14, will further split the audience's attention.
For now, it appears that the Rs 100 crore mark may continue to be an elusive milestone for Dulquer Salmaan.
