Box office update: R Madhavan's Rocketry and Aditya Roy Kapur's Rashtra Kavach OM join the league of duds on Day 1
New arrivals in cinemas R Madhavan's Rocketry and Aditya Roy Kapur's Rashtra Kavach OM have collectively failed spark the interest of the audience.
Indian film industry’s latest offerings Rocketry : The Nambi Effect and Rashtra Kavach OM seem to have joined the list of box office duds that have marred most of the post pandemic era in cinema, with their slow start at the box office. The two films are very different in subject and scale but somehow the fate of the two films on Day 1 is similar.
Rocketry has been getting rave reviews from the critics but despite all the good word of mouth, this pan-Indian, multi-lingual release based on ISRO scientist Nambi Narayan’s life failed to spark interest on Day 1. The movie has earned less than Rs. 1 crore at the box office on its opening day.
According to a box office India report, R. Madhavan starrer film has collected only Rs. 65 lakhs at the box office on Friday despite releasing in multiple languages.
Aditya Roy Kapur starrer Rashtra Kavach OM, on the other hand, is an actioner and has had a slightly better Friday at the ticket windows. The film is Aditya’s first out and out action entertainer but apart from the fact that it has managed to beat a far better film like Rocketry, team OM doesn’t have much reason to celebrate either.
At the box office, Rashtra Kavach OM’s opening day collections stand at Rs. 1.51 crores according to trade analyst Taran Adarsh. The film opened to mixed reviews on Friday and has clearly failed at attracting the audience.
Apart from these two films, Varun Dhawan ’s Jugjugg Jeeyo which entered its second week this Friday, continues it promising run at the box office. On its second Friday the total collections of the film stand at Rs. 56.69 crores.
Buzz is that Rocketry has the potential to pick up based on word of mouth and hopefully it could help the film save face over Saturday and Sunday. Jugjugg Jeeyo, on the other hand, could do well this weekend too considering the lack of competition from these new releases.
