Composer Sushin Shyam has exploded onto the Indian music scene, capturing the imagination of music lovers across the country with his refreshing range of background scores and tracks. He is one of the most successful and in-demand composers working in the Malayalam film industry today.

However, it seems he has decided to take a short break. According to reports, Sushin Shyam won’t be taking on any new projects for over a year. If true, we may not hear new compositions from him until 2026, though an official confirmation is awaited.

Conventional wisdom suggests that it’s risky for a composer to step away from the spotlight for a year, especially when their career is on the rise. With audience tastes rapidly evolving, it’s anyone’s guess what the landscape of Indian mainstream cinema will look like in 2026.

However, Sushin Shyam appears confident in his talent and his ability to engage audiences, even after a brief hiatus. It seems that he needed this break to reinvent himself as a composer.

In 2024 alone, Sushin Shyam had four releases, including the upcoming Bougainvillea. He has composed music for a wide range of genres, from the period blockbuster Manjummel Boys to the fun gangster comedy Aavesham, and the intimate family drama Ullozhukku. Sushin has consistently demonstrated his ability to score across the emotional spectrum.

Bougainvillea is due in cinemas on October 17. Manjummel Boys and Aavesham were two of the biggest blockbusters in the history of Malayalam cinema, earning over Rs 240 crore and Rs 130 crore, respectively.

Sushin Shyam has also submitted Manjummel Boys and Aavesham for Grammy consideration. “I am incredibly honoured to share that my work from Aavesham and Manjummel Boys has been submitted for Grammy consideration. A special thanks to Aditya Veera (@adix70) for thoughtfully considering and recommending the music for entry into the 67th Grammy Awards process. His thorough understanding of the process made the journey a smooth sail. This has been the most exhilarating yet fulfilling process for me to have worked on these projects & to see how far they’ve gotten me!" Sushin said in a statement.
