Govinda Naam Mera OTT
Well, it looks like Bollywood’s nightmarish phase is far from over and all the upcoming releases are having to face the brunt of it. The big releases crashing badly at the box office are leaving the producers perplexed about their ambitious movies. The latest movie which has faced a grave loss due to the same is Vicky Kaushal ’s Govinda Naam Mera .
The Shashank Khaitan directorial movie Govinda Naam Mera will now see an OTT route instead of getting a theatrical release. It seems that not even a big name like Vicky Kaushal backing the project is giving the makers a sense of confidence for releasing the movie in the theatres. The movie has now been sold to Disney+ Hotstar for Rs 62 crore. Well, this surely isn’t great news for Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions who are producing the movie.
Bollywood Hungama quoted a source close to the development to state, “It’s a comic entertainer, but not exactly a film that’s ideal for the big screen in today’s world. Hence, the makers decided on a direct to digital premiere.” The source furthermore added that the digital and satellite rights have been sold to Star Network for Rs 62 crore.
The source further added, “The digital rights are valued at Rs. 42 crores and the satellite rights at Rs. 20 crores. The initial market expectation of Dharma Productions for Govinda Naam Mera was Rs. 80 crores, but the buyers were not too keen to spend such a big amount on the film. Finally, the deal was locked at Rs. 62 crores. The budget of the film is equal to the revenue fetched. The team is now in a no profit no loss zone, which is still better than entailing losses in today’s world.”
The movie will reportedly release in November on Disney+ Hotstar. The flopping of some big releases backed by superstars has left Bollywood in disarray when it comes to upcoming projects. We wonder which upcoming movie will be able to break the dull box office spell which is looming over the industry right now.
