Here are six easter eggs from the first trailer for Blue Beetle.
Blue Beetle
The first movie in the new DCU lineup Blue Beetle had its first trailer released recently. The movie marks the live-action debut of one of DC Comics' iconic superheroes.
In the comics, Blue Beetle aka Jaime Reyes is a teenager who encounters a piece of alien technology called the Blue Scarab which permanently attaches to his body and gives him superpowers.
The Blue Beetle is a weapon created by an alien race known as The Reach, who have conquered hundreds of worlds.
The action-packed trailer does not give up too much of the plot and focuses on Jamie Reyes's initial contact with the Blue Beetle and his transformation, so we decided to take a look at six easter eggs you may have missed.
Old Blue Beetle Suits
There have been two other Blue Beelte before Jamie Reyes, the first got his powers after he discovered an ancient Blue Scrab and the other created a Blue Beetle suit using advanced technology.
Now we can see both versions of the Blue Beelte suits in the background, in what appears to be the Blue Beetles lair.
Big Belly Burgers
The movie also marks the first known reference to Big Belly Burgers, which is a fictional burger chain that is a constant in DC comics.
In the trailer, the Blue Beetle is hidden inside a Big Belly Burger box by Jenny Kord, Jamie's love interest in the movie.
Final Fantasy Reference
In the trailer, the suit informs Jamie that it can create any weapon that he thinks of at which point he created the iconic Buster sword for the popular video game franchise Final Fantasy.
Palmera City
The movie will be set in the fictional city of Palmera, Palmera was created for the movie. n the comic Blue Beetles adventures take place in El Paso, Texas.
The makers of the movie wanted Blue Beelte to have a fictional city similar to Gotham and Metropolis.
The Bug
Another fun throwback to the comics is the appernce of The Bug, a spacecraft used by Blue Beetle in the comics. The design of the ship was inspired by Nite Owl's ship from the iconic Watchmen comic series.
Carapax the Indestructible Man
The movie also marks the debut of Carapax, In the comics, he is a ruthless mercenary whose mind is transferred into a powerfull robot thus giving him the title of the indestructible man.
The trailer makes it clear that he has been hired to find and kill Jamie and retrieve the Blue Beetle, he is played by Raoul Max Trujillo.
The movie is directed by Angel Manuel Soto who previously directed the critically hit Charm City Boys, and the screenplay is written by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer.
Blue Beetle will hit theaters worldwide on August 18, 2023.
