After a theatrical run of less than a month, Jiiva and Priya Bhavani Shankar’s psychological horror film Black has arrived on OTT. The Tamil film, which hit the big screens on October 11, is now available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video. The film is available in Tamil with English subtitles on the popular OTT platform.
Directed by Balasubramani, Black revolves around a couple who move into a gated community, plagued by paranormal activity.

Starring Jiiva and Priya Bhavani Shankar, this Tamil psychological horror features the actors as a married couple named Vasanth and Aaranya. The story begins with their move into a newly constructed gated community. However, things take a dark turn as they encounter unsettling experiences, being the only residents in the complex. It is soon revealed that, back in 1964, a strange incident occurred at this location during a supermoon, introducing elements of time travel and parallel universes into the plot. The couple’s struggle to escape the isolated community forms the crux of the story.
Black is a remake of Coherence
The film is an official remake of the 2013 Hollywood sci-fi thriller Coherence, directed by James Ward in his debut. The original film starred Emily Baldoni and Lauren Maher, and followed a woman experiencing strange events after a comet passes.
Director Balasubramani had earlier explained that the title Black symbolizes the darkness surrounding us and also refers to the hidden aspects of our personalities that are revealed during complex situations, which may be difficult to comprehend completely. He elaborated that the film explores this theme through intense, fast-paced scenes, with events unfolding for a couple over the course of one night.
Black total box office collection
Upon its release, Black received mixed to positive responses from audiences, who appreciated its unique narrative. The film went on to become a decent hit, collecting approximately Rs 12 crore at the box office.
