Before Demonte Colony 2 OTT release, a look back at the 2015 horror phenomenon
Before diving into this spine-chilling Demonte Colony 2, it’s worth revisiting the events of Demonte Colony (2015), the film that started it all.
Demonte Colony 2 set to make OTT debut
Demonte Colony 2 is one of the highly anticipated releases in the OTT space. Unlike most new Tamil movies, Demonte Colony 2 had an extended theatrical run thanks to a surprisingly strong response from horror movie fans, delaying its streaming debut.
With Demonte Colony 2 set to become available for streaming on ZEE5 this Friday, it’s wise to catch up on the events of the first movie, Demonte Colony, which came out almost 10 years ago.
Judging from the trailer, it’s safe to assume that Demonte Colony 2 begins right where the first film left off. While the jump scares may be fresh, you'll enjoy the sequel even more if you’re familiar with the past events.
Demonte Colony was first released in 2015 and marked the directorial debut of Ajay Gnanamuthu. The story revolves around four friends — Srinivasan, Vimal, Raghavan, and Sajith — who, out of curiosity, visit a haunted mansion in Chennai’s Demonte Colony, a place notorious for paranormal activity.
The mansion belonged to John Demonte, a wealthy Portuguese businessman from the 19th century who was believed to have been cursed due to personal tragedies. After exploring the eerie, dilapidated house, the group unknowingly takes a cursed artefact, setting off a chain of terrifying events.
Back at their apartment, strange occurrences begin to unfold, and one by one, the friends fall prey to a sinister force. The movie explores themes of greed, guilt, and supernatural vengeance, with the friends desperately trying to escape their doom, only to realize the curse is inescapable.
Demonte Colony is streaming on SunNXT.
With a tight script, jump scares, and an eerie atmosphere, Demonte Colony was a commercial hit, launching Ajay Gnanamuthu’s career. Following the setback of his film Cobra, Ajay returned to the Demonte Colony franchise, hoping to bounce back from the failure.
Ajay has scaled up the production and scope of Demonte Colony 2. Like its predecessor, the film promises a chilling narrative blending psychological tension and supernatural horror. The sequel was also a huge box-office success, garnering positive reviews.
Demonte Colony 2 stars Arulnithi, reprising his role from the first film, alongside Priya Bhavani Shankar, Archana Ravichandran, Tsering Dorjee, and Arun Pandian.
