Bawaal Trailer: Varun Dhawan & Janhvi Kapoor’s love story leaves you confused but intrigued with its World War II angle

When the teaser of Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor’s upcoming film Bawaal was shared, the last scene left netizens confused. Their characters Ajay and Nisha seemed like they were locked up in a gas chamber, like The Holocaust. However, the trailer that was launched today is very different. In fact, it seems like a glimpse of a whole other movie. It begins with a mini introduction of Ajju bhaiya aka Varun, who lives in Lucknow and cares the most about his image, no matter what goes into keeping it a certain way.

The history teacher then meets Nisha, played by Janhvi. Thinking that she is the perfect girl for his image, he gets married to her. Ajay then decides to take his wife to Europe for what looks like their honeymoon. It starts to feel like the beginning of a sweet love story with elements of comedy, like Varun’s French and Ajju’s style. But things suddenly take a turn for the worst when they reach Germany. Nisha realizes Ajju is selfish and cares only about his image. But what leaves you confused are the references to World War II and Adolf Hitler.

This is followed by Ajay calling Nisha a ‘defected piece’ before we get a better look at their strained relationship. Netizens are truly impressed by Janhvi and Varun’s versatility in this trailer. But the plot of this film is confusing, which is what makes it all the more intriguing. Many are now showering love on the actors, but several netizens have admitted that they found the trailer truly confusing. For instance, one tweeted: “Amazing trailer 🤩 but best part is they didn't reveal anything like i'm so confuse n I really wanna know what's happening right now #BawaalTrailer varun shines again”, whereas another shared, “So world war is a metaphor for the war/conflicts between the couple? 🤔Tiwari ji confuse kar diye.”

Well, the confusion will be cleared when Varun and Janhvi’s Bawaal releases on Amazon Prime Video on 21st July. What did you think of the trailer?
