Filmmaker Arun Matheswaran expressed gratitude on Thursday for the opportunity to spend time with music legend Ilaiyaraaja. "Bliss," he captioned while sharing photos of himself walking with Ilaiyaraaja in an area surrounded by trees and mountains.

Arun Matheswaran seemingly had profound conversations with Ilaiyaraaja as part of the ongoing scripting process for the biopic. Arun will be helming the musical on the life, struggles, and ultimate triumph of Ilaiyaraaja. Tamil star Dhanush will portray the legendary composer on screen.

The project was launched recently with the blessings of Ilaiyaraaja. The event was attended by some of the veterans of Tamil cinema, including Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan. Kamal expressed a lot of excitement about the project while sharing a glimpse of his lasting relationship with Ilaiyaraaja.

Kamal also underlined the enormity of the responsibility that lies on the shoulders of Arun Matheswaran, a relatively new director with just three films to his credit. He advised Arun, "Take it easy. Don't succumb to all the pressure and make the film the way you see him. Tell your truth."

According to reports, Kamal is said to be involved in co-writing the screenplay for the biopic of Ilaiyaraaja, one of the most celebrated musicians in the history of Indian cinema. However, this has not been officially confirmed yet.

The Ilaiyaraaja biopic is Arun's second consecutive collaboration with Dhanush. The actor-director duo previously worked on Captain Miller. Mounted on a huge scale, the period drama was released in cinemas amid huge expectations. However, the film opened to mixed reviews and fell short of meeting expectations at the box office.

Captain Miller was Arun's first major release as his debut movie, Rocky, had a limited release, and his second movie, Saani Kaayidham, went directly to streaming.
